It's been a strong pre-season for the Gas as the team prepares for the start of the new season. With 5 wins in 7, Rovers only 90 minute loss came in the form of a 3-2 defeat at Champions League Qualifying side SC Braga in Portugal.
Standout performances from the likes of Scott Sinclair, John Marquis, Jevani Brown, Ryan Jones, Luke Thomas and Matthew Cox; along with signals that Evans and Connolly may be rediscovering the kind of form that made them key players in our League 2 promotion campaign, can give Gasheads plenty of cause for optimism.
There were also plenty of nervy moments though as Rovers often looked ropey playing out from the back. The Gas would sit back a lot during the games appearing to invite the pressure offering a good test for an evolving back line. It shouldn't be forgotten though that we only conceded 5 goals throughout pre-season, 3 of which coming against the Portuguese top flight team.
Here's a reminder of all pre-season results and Rovers' scorers:
30/06/23 Melksham Town 0-9 Bristol Rovers (Sinclair 2, Thomas 2, McCormick, Marquis, Loft, Triallist, Brown)
08/07/23 Eastleigh 0-2 Bristol Rovers (Sinclair, Marquis)
11/07/23 Cardiff City 1-1 Bristol Rovers (sinclair) *60mins
11/07/23 Cardiff City 1-0 Bristol Rovers *60 minutes
15/07/23 Brentford B 0-1 Bristol Rovers (Sinclair)
22/07/23 S.C. Braga 3-2 Bristol Rovers (Collins, Brown)
25/07/23 Swansea City 0-2 Bristol Rovers (Brown, Marquis)
29/07/23 Bristol Rovers 2-0 Chesterfield
(Marquis 2)
We get our season underway against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday.
